Dallas Community Joins Together to Host Dallas ISD’s 2014 Summer Food Service Program Kick-offServing Free Meals to Dallas Youth at over 200 Locations

DALLAS, Texas, June 13, 2014 – Dallas Independent School District joins with Dallas Park and Recreation Send a Kids to Camp Program, Texas Hunger Initiative, United Way’s “Nine for 90” community service program, the Nina Zavala Group, K104 104.5 FM and Smooth R&B 105.7 FM to host:

Dallas ISD’s 2014 Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) kick-off event from 11:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, June 17, 20124 at Kahn Elementary School, 610 North Franklin Street.

The 2014 Summer Food Service kick-off event will feature:
• An overview of the SFSP and what’s new for the 2014 year.
• Showcase of support for SFSP in Dallas County.
• Summer Fun Kid-Friendly Activities, including Red Rover, Simon Says and Hula Hoop/Jump Rope.
• Dallas Mavericks teaching kids how to eat healthy and stay active during the summer.
• Summer lunch service in action – see first-hand how the SFSP works.

Kick - Off

Through the Summer Food Service Program, Dallas ISD’s Food and Child Nutrition Services, in conjunction with the Texas Department of Agriculture will provide free meals and snacks to Dallas children and youth, ages one to 18, at 207 locations this summer, through Aug. 22. Participating sites include over 180 Dallas ISD schools and over 20 community locations – colleges, parks and youth activity centers. The program’s goal is to ensure that youth throughout Dallas will not go without proper nutrition during the summer months. All children are welcome to participate. No registration is required.
